How Breaking Bad Broke My Rhythm

Let me take you back in time, to about 6 weeks ago. After the kids were in bed, Mr. Acorns and I would sit down and either watch a quick show from the DVR, or maybe a movie, but either way I usually had my laptop or tablet out and I would be working on things, either lawyer-related or blog-related. I would read a book, write a post, and allow my brain to think about all kinds of things.

Then we decided to start watching Breaking Bad.

That is the moment my blog went on an unintentional hiatus. It is the cause of 10 or more half-finished posts. It was the moment I stopped sleeping. It has consumed me. Every waking moment of the day I think about when we’ll get to watch another episode. Watch an episode until 1:00 a.m.? Sure, I don’t need to function the next day. Write a blog post? My blog post can wait another night, I’ll just do it tomorrow on a work break. Who needs to fold laundry when there’s an episode to watch?

The good news is that we only have started the first half of the final two-part season to watch, after finishing Season 4 Monday night (or, rather, in the wee hours of Tuesday morning). This means we have, I believe, about 15 episodes left when you count the series finale that will air Sunday night.

This is also the bad news. There are only 15 episodes left for us to watch. Not since The Sopranos has a show so enveloped me in its story, so enraptured me with its characters and its story. We have watched The Tudors, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, etc., and Breaking Bad beats them all (with Downton Abbey a close second).

I have avoided all spoilers and will continue to do so. I cannot wait to see these final episodes, as I have no doubt that the writers will bring us more surprises, more incredible character developments, and more unbelievable intensity. Whether Walter White is a man to love, to loathe, or whether he occupies some morally ambiguous middle ground, remains to be seen, but I can say this – I will be so glad and so disappointed when it is all said and done. So glad to have seen the entire series, so disappointed that it is over, but so glad to have my night hours back.

Until we start another new show……
